IsatHub setup
The IsatHub is Inmarsat's pocket WiFi hub for smartphones and tablets. Setup is straightforward — here's the short version.
What you need
- The IsatHub iSavi unit
- Smartphone or tablet with the IsatHub Voice and IsatHub Control apps installed
- A clear view of the southern sky (in the UK)
- The unit charged or plugged into power
Setup
- Open the IsatHub outside. The integrated antenna folds back; rotate it to point roughly south.
- Power on. The internal compass will help you align — green LEDs on the antenna confirm a satellite lock.
- From your phone’s WiFi settings, join the iSavi-xxxxxx network using the password printed on the unit.
- Open IsatHub Control to configure data and any standard settings.
- Open IsatHub Voice to make and receive calls, including the dedicated voice number.
Tips
- Take your time on alignment — a couple of degrees off and you lose half your signal strength.
- The IsatHub uses a separate satellite voice number (a +870 number); your phone number does not work over it.
- Data is shaped — heavy streaming will be slow and expensive. Keep it to messaging, email and light browsing.
